2024: A Year in Motion - 500+ km running and 1000+ km activity

2024 saw me embrace a variety of activities, from pounding the pavement to exploring trails. This post dives deep into the numbers, analyzing my performance across running, walking, cycling, and hiking, drawing insights from my Strava data.

2024 Activity Summary

ActivityActivitiesDistance (km)TimeElevation Gain (m)

Running:

Running dominated my activity in 2024. With 109 runs covering a total of 543.2 km, I averaged just under 5km per run. This translates to roughly 1.48 km covered every day of the year, showcasing a commitment to consistent training. The total time spent running, 62 hours and 54 minutes, equates to an average pace of approximately 7:06 min/km. Climbing 7,612 meters throughout the year points to a preference for incorporating hills into my routes, adding an extra challenge and contributing to overall fitness gains. Looking at my Strava profile (https://www.strava.com/athletes/111463430) provides further context, potentially revealing trends in pace, distance, and preferred running locations over time.

Walking:

Walking played a significant supporting role, complementing my running regime. 79 walks totaling 274.3 km indicates a regular practice of incorporating lower-impact exercise. This equates to approximately 0.75 km walked per day on average. Spending 57 hours and 46 minutes walking suggests an average pace of around 44:30 min/km, aligning with a more leisurely and restorative approach. The 3,423 meters of elevation gained demonstrates a continued engagement with varied terrain even during walks.

Cycling:

Cycling added variety to my fitness routine. 26 rides covering 180.6 km suggests less frequent engagement compared to running and walking. This averages out to approximately 6.95 km per ride. 18 hours and 12 minutes spent cycling indicates an average speed of roughly 9.96 km/h. The 1,805 meters of elevation gain suggests a preference for some hilly routes, further enhancing the workout.

Hiking:

Hiking represented a smaller portion of my 2024 activity. 3 hikes covering only 3.6 km suggests these were likely shorter, more focused outings. A total time of 1 hour and 1 minute spent hiking supports this interpretation. Gaining 179 meters across these hikes indicates some incline was involved, adding a degree of challenge to these excursions.

Overall Analysis and Future Goals:

The data reveals a well-balanced approach to fitness in 2024, with a strong focus on running supplemented by walking, cycling, and occasional hikes. The consistency in running is particularly noteworthy, demonstrating a dedication to maintaining a regular training schedule. Moving into 2025, exploring a deeper dive into pace variations within running and cycling could reveal areas for improvement and optimization. Furthermore, increasing the frequency of cycling or hiking could offer new challenges and contribute to a more diverse fitness profile. Ultimately, the goal is to continue building on the foundation laid in 2024, striving for progress and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle.
